Scientist (Postdoc) (f/m/d)
The position
The Single Particles, Clusters, and Biomolecules & Serial Femtosecond Crystallography (SPB/SFX) instrument of the European XFEL is primarily concerned with three-dimensional diffractive imaging, and three-dimensional structure determination, of micrometre-scale and smaller objects, at atomic or near-atomic resolution.
A particular emphasis is placed on biological objects—including crystals of macromolecules and macromolecular complexes as well as viruses, organelles, and cells—though the instrument will also be capable of investigating non-biological samples using similar techniques. Furthermore, the SPB/SFX instrument aims to study structural dynamics in these biological systems on the millisecond to femtosecond timescale.
With this offer, the SPB/SFX group at the European XFEL facility is seeking to hire an expert postdoctoral collaborator with excellent expertise both in the modelling of laser-created plasmas as well as in large-scale scientific computing to be involved in the simulation of X-ray irradiated large biosamples relevant to planned experiments at the EuXFEL.
Your tasks
- Performing extension of the molecular-dynamics-based simulation tool, necessary to include therein chemical effects, as well as to enable efficient simulations of large biosamples
- Close interaction on the border between theory and experiment while performing preparatory studies of chosen samples before their experimental imaging studies at the SPB/SFX instrument
Requirements
- PhD degree in theoretical plasma physics
- Proven excellent expertise in:
- Modelling non-equilibrium dynamics of laser-created plasmas,
- Large-scale scientific computing
- Code optimization
- Scientific programming
- Demonstrated through a strong publication record and 1-2 recommendation letters.
- Good knowledge of English
